Riding Backwards

June 27, 2011 by cynthiarogan Leave a Comment

I heard a song the other night. At first it was annoying. The second time, strangely funny. Then I realized I’d heard that song before in conjunction with a short film. Third play through, I listened to the words as I found the YouTube video by Parry Gripp.

Backwards on a pig from YouTube

“The world has gone insane and you don’t know what is right.

You’ve got to keep on keepin’ on

Get on that pig and hold on tight.”

I watched the video more than once.

Now, we all know how it feels to be in the pig’s position. But look at the monkey’s desperation when it doesn’t have the pig to hang on to.

As sad as it sounds, I see myself in that monkey. Somewhere inside me is the misconception that life is supposed to be easier than it is. I want to hold on to what is comfortable. Let the pig do the running.

But, I don’t get to feel the pounding of my own heart unless I fall off the pig.

Do I?
